Aronia (Black Chokeberry) 

Aronia melanocarpa is highly valued in Europe for both its ornamental value and as a useful fruit. Common name of chokeberry, fruit is technically edible, but due to its astringent bitter taste causes choking in most who try. Fruits are best used for juices, wines, pies and jellies. Showy white flowers in the spring followed in the fall by jet black berries and brilliant fire-red foliage. Aronia is not bothered by pests or diseases Plants have a wide range of soil tolerance from medium moisture, well drained as well as boggy soils. Best fruit production in full sun, but can tolerate partial shade as well. Fruit production benefits from planting two different varieties.
